Timeline

1880-1881 - Built by a partnership.

1882 - Partnership incorporated as the Islay Distillery Co. Ltd.

1887 - Islay Distillery Co. Ltd. merged with W. Grant & Co. and Glenrothes-Glenlivet to form the Highland Distilleries Co. Ltd.

Operated as the Islay Distillery Co. Ltd. per Nettleton in 1893.

1894 - Distillery switches to electric lighting.

1930's - Distillery closed for a time.

1960 - Single-track road built to the distillery - which was previously supplied exclusively by boat/ship.

1963 - Extended from two to four stills. Last year the floor maltings were in use. Light-grains plant.

1981 - Distillery closed.

1984 - Distillery re-opened.

1993 - Last ship supply delivery.

1999 - Owned by Highland Distillers.

.... Owned by The Edrington Group.

2003 - Bought by Burn Stewart Distillers plc from The Edrington Group.

2014 - Burn Stewart Distillers plc merge with Distell.

2021 - New visitor centre opened.
