Notes : Following its closure it was incorporated into the neighbouring St. Ann’s Brewery (1854-1961) and part of the site may still survive. 

'Croft-an-Righ' means ‘the croft of the king’.

 

Timeline

1825 - Abbeyhill Distillery founded. The exact date is unknown, though there are no excise figures for 1824 shown in the 1825 accounts.

1825 - Excise report records 10,096 gallons of spirit produced between 5th January 1825 and 5th January 1826.

1826 - Excise report records 11,470 gallons of spirit produced between 5th January 1826 and 5th January 1827.

1826 - Thomas Miller sequestrated.

1826 - Lease and utensils sold.

1846 - The distillery is bought by J.A. Bernard who renamed it Croftanrigh, or possibly Croft-an-Righ Distillery.

14th October 1846 - Coffey still installed and licensed.

1846 - 14th Oct - J.A. Bernard receives distilling license.

1852 - Distillery closed.
